Sitting on a prominent corner in Mt Albert, L’oeuf as it’s been affectionately named, is a refreshing addition to a neighbourhood that was running a little low on eclectic cafe culture. The interior boasts a combination of sun drenched sidewalk seating, a large shared space, intimate tables for two and window seating.
There’s strong Atomic coffee on offer, and the food – a mix of breakfast and lunch fare, is generous and fresh. Order a standard, please-all number by opting for the ‘Architect’ (two free-range poached eggs on toast) or have a go at the ‘Cambodian’ – sweet black banana rice served on a bed of salted coconut cream and topped with lychees and golden kiwi.
A concise drinks menu features two house made lassies: an orange blossom-mango number, plus a cleansing coconut version, as well as a spicy chai tea. The team also bake their own cakes, slices and other treats each morning.
